A rocket fired at Beersheba has scored a direct hit on a home in the city, Israeli media say. No injuries were reported. There are also reports of damage to a factory and vehicle in the city, which has taken on several dozen rockets since the beginning of the Pillar of Defense operation against Hamas.

Many of the rockets fired at the city from Gaza have been shot down by the Iron Dome anti-missile battery, including at least seven in the past hour.

Relatedly, the IDF has reported it will call up 30,000 reservists in the coming days, as it aims to widen the battle against Hamas in the wake of unrelenting rocket fire. It had earlier said it would carry out a limited call up.

IDF spokesman Yoav Mordechai said earlier in the day that paratroopers and members of the Givati Brigade were heading south to assist in the operation.
